YOUR MOON SIGN AND THE HEALING FLOWER ESSENCES OF DR EDWARD BACH
by
Christine Chalklin
Dr Edward Bach, a renowned English Physician and bacteriologist developed the flower remedies in the 1930s. In his Harley Street practice, where he saw people from all walks of life, he came to the conclusion that the personality of the patient had a profound effect on how they would respond to medical treatment. This remarkable insight “treat the individual, not the disease” became the cornerstone of his natural system of healing.
With his knowledge of homoeopathy Dr Bach devised a system of seven emotional groups under which people could be classified, such as loneliness, fear or despondency. He then created thirty-eight different flower or plant based essences to treat each of these states of mind. He firmly believed that “dis-ease” was caused by emotional imbalance and that once the body was re-balanced then health and wellbeing normally returned.
A man well before his time, it is only recently that the concept of mind, body and spirit healing or vibrational medicine is becoming acceptable.
Dr Bach was also very interested in other esoteric subjects, including astrology. He made several correlations between planetary positions and personality. As his remedies dealt mainly with the emotional nature of the person he concluded that the position of the individual’s moon was of particular importance. In astrology the moon position is symbolic of the emotional nature of the Person, it shows how they may respond and react without forethought.
As a Bach flower essence therapist I always view the client as an individual, and if using astrology I would also note the position of the moon and any aspects to it from other planets.
Using astrology with Bach flower therapy makes perfect sense. Astrology shows us where our weaknesses are to be found and how we may best overcome them. I find that after an astrology session when my client is beginning to understand him or herself better and would like assistance with the personal development process, the remedies can be invaluable here, as they work on such a subtle yet powerful level.
Below is a list of the moon signs and corresponding essences as envisioned by Dr Bach. He never had the work published as he was not an astrologer and sufficient research had not been carried out. During the 1930s his interest in esoteric subjects was considered very peculiar and he was already seen as an eccentric figure by the medical profession and was threatened with being ‘struck off’.
Dr Bach discovered a link between his “type” essences and the position of the moon in the birth chart.
The flower essences work on the emotional level and astrologically your Moon sign determines your emotional reactions, linking them in this way can be especially useful in times of anxiety and stress.

If you have access to the Flower Essences, try taking your corresponding moon-signs essence and see what happens! Two drops in a glass of water, or a treatment bottle and then taken four times a day. It can also be used in conjunction with any other essence combination.
